China Game Revenues Expected To Hit $35 Billion In 2021
Game revenues in China are expected to surpass $35 billion in 2021 with mobile games making up 58% of the overall market.
This is according to market analyst Niko Partners, which has released its 2017 China Digital Games Market Data Report. The report surveyed over 1,000 gamers in China and includes interviews with major Chinese developers and publishers.
It claims that China’s game revenues will hit $26 billion in 2017, before hitting $35 billion in 2021. Mobile revenues are growing rapidly and are expected to surpass PC revenues in 2018. These figures are for China’s domestic revenues, and not any revenues generated from exports.
Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad shared more of the report on Twitter, stating that there were 503 million mobile gamers in China in 2016. This number is expected to grow to 699 million by 2021.
On the up
eSports have also been identified as a key area driving interest in gaming for the country on both PC and mobile. This may explain why Tencent recently revealed plans for a dedicated eSports TV channel in China.
Niko Partners’ figures are in line with Newzoo, which recently reported that China will generate $27.5 billion in revenues across the gaming market in 2017.
